Now hiring: Associate/intern position for an AMFT, APCC, or ACSW.
I have a private practice (http://www.drsheilaaddison.com) that is focused on providing culturally-sensitive services to individuals, couples, and families from marginalized groups, particularly gender and sexual minorities, but also people of color, people with disabilities, and other people on the margins. I pay via a “wage plus bonus” model, in which your hourly wage is Oakland minimum (currently $13.80 per hour) but you receive 100% of the remainder of your earnings as a bonus after I deduct your wages and my business costs.
The successful applicant for this position will be prepared to work at least two evenings per week, or one evening and a weekend day, in order to carry a client load of up to 14-16 clients. (A third day/evening can be added once you reach 10-12 clients if we agree it makes sense for you.) It is very difficult to develop this kind of client load with only daytime appointments. I will pass along referrals to you that don’t fit my schedule, that need a lower fee than I can slide to, and when my practice is full, but you should also be prepared with a specific client focus and ideas for marketing/outreach that will help you generate your own referrals. I highly prefer applicants with couple therapy training and experience, as couples are a large part of my practice and I often need someone to refer couples to. Experience with videotape review in supervision is also desirable. Position is likely to begin in February.
To Apply: If you are interested in the position, please send a copy of your resume, contact information for 2-3 references who are familiar with your clinical work, and a cover letter describing:
1) your experience and/or interest in family systems therapy, couple therapy (particularly Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and/or Gottman method couple therapy), and/or sex therapy
2) other therapy approaches you have experience and interest in
3) your career goals
4) the role of social justice in your training thus far and in your intended future practice
5) your experience working with particular marginalized groups of clients (e.g. sexual minorities, gender minorities, etc.)
6) your ability to be successful in a private practice setting (which will include needing to network and market oneself), and describing your availability for client appointments
Submit your resume, references, and question responses via email.
