POSITION SUMMARY

Social Worker (SW) provides support and counseling for men and women who have recently been incarcerated in prison and jail and returning to Sacramento. These services include one-on-one counseling as well as conducting periodic group sessions on recovery and mental health. SW responsibilities include conducting client intake assessments, evaluating client’s needs, listening to client’s concerns, documenting progress, and maintaining client notes. SW will be on a counseling team with one other Social Worker and part of a staff of 25.

Exodus Project provides an LCSW clinical supervisor, should the candidate be working towards their licensure as an LCSW or MFT.

Individuals with lived experience of incarceration, addiction recovery, and/or impacted by close family in the criminal justice system are strongly encouraged to apply.

ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY

Exodus Project launched in February 2019 as a program of St. Vincent de Paul Sacramento. Exodus Project provides mentoring, housing, employment services, counseling, transportation, case management, micro loans, and other resources for men and women returning to the community from incarceration. The goal is to reduce recidivism, alleviate poverty, and reunify families through a holistic approach that emphasizes human dignity, self-awareness, and an engaged spiritual life.

Through our program, thousands of returning citizens have accessed a variety of resources to support their transition home. Exodus Project works with (and employs) individuals of all faiths and/or no faith tradition; 2/3 of our staff is formerly incarcerated.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide short to medium term one-on-one counseling services, in-person, by video, or by

phone

  • Plan, coordinate, manage, and implement support plans for clients
  • Monitor and evaluate clients’ progress
  • Conduct periodic groups with clients on recovery, mental health, parenting, grief etc.
  • Refer clients to higher levels of MH and SUD care
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records
  • Provide reports to Mental Health Diversion Court, as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MSW or MFT degree and must have or be seeking licensure and be registered with BBS
  • Experience with client assessment, case management, and individual counseling
  • Experience preferred working with the justice involved, homeless, mentally ill, and/or substance

abuse population or other relevant social service work

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Appropriate, professional boundaries
  • Computer skills with proficiency in MS Office
  • Strong verbal communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills and time management
  • Understanding of and compassion for the population we serve and issues related to

incarceration, poverty, mental health, and addiction

  • Strong ability to counsel and mentor, both in groups and one-on-one
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team

HOURS AND COMPENSATIONS

40 hours per week; exempt position

Hybrid schedule available

$80,000-$90,000 annually, depending on experience and education
