We are currently seeking a 30 hour (which could be divided into two office locations- Richmond and Concord) Bilingual Mental Health Clinician to work in our Child Abuse Treatment (CHAT) Program; a therapeutic program for children up to age 18 who have experienced trauma or physical and/or emotional child abuse. This position will typically work weekdays and some evenings.

Examples of the trauma and abuse addressed by this program include witnessing domestic violence, physical abuse, and neglect. In this program the Bilingual Clinician will provide trauma-informed therapy to children that will focus on healing mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder, problems in the parent-child relationship, or other social-emotional challenges with the ultimate goal of restoring children and families to a healthy level of functioning.

Clinicians may provide individual, family and group therapy. The length of therapy is flexible to meet the individual clinical needs of children and families. Hours worked in our CHAT program count towards licensure.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate for this position will have experience working with complex issues surrounding children and families who have been victims of abuse, neglect, family violence, or trauma. The ideal candidate will approach their work with our clients from a strengths-based perspective, and embody a trauma-informed, non-judgmental manner.

The following is required:

Possession of one of the following professional licenses, either:

a) Valid license as a Clinical Social Worker issued by the State of California, Board of Behavioral Science Examiners; or

b) Valid license as a Marriage and Family Therapist issued by the State of California, Board of Behavioral Science Examiners; or

c) Valid license as a Psychologist issued by the State of California Board of Medical Quality Assurance, Psychology Examining Committee. Substitution for License:

Possession of a Masters’ Degree in psychology or closely related behavioral science field from an accredited college or university, and registration with the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) or an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) is acceptable. As a condition of continued employment, incumbents qualifying under this substitution pattern must complete the training and experience requirements necessary to

obtain licensure with the time periods prescribed by the governing bodies administering the issuance of these licenses.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of DSM V diagnostic criteria
  • Two years’ experience of child therapy
  • Experience working with clients impacted by family violence and abuse with specialized knowledge of trauma
  • Training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Parent Child Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, Nurturing Parenting, or EMDR. Previous experience working with clients using these modalities would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of resources in Contra Costa County.
