Catholic Charities is a 501(c)3 public benefit non-profit organization founded in 1980 to fight poverty and its consequences in our local communities with crisis intervention services and by strengthening families resulting in new opportunities and changed futures. Counseling Services is a program of Catholic Charities that provides short-term, solution focused therapeutic services (12 sessions) for low-income individuals and families in a community setting. Licensed therapists and supervised, registered associate therapists address emotional and behavioral issues confronting individuals & families that have limited access to counseling services. Most services are provided on a sliding scale.

STATEMENT OF THE JOB

Under the supervision of a licensed therapist, an Associate Therapist is responsible for the proper assessment, treatment planning, educational & therapeutic process, effective termination, and associated required recordkeeping of a caseload of a minimum of eight (8) active cases. Office locations include the cities of San Bernardino and Riverside. Required individual and group supervision are provided by the organization as well as professional liability coverage. This is a part time position (Up to 28 hours per week) and may include late afternoons, evenings and/or weekends.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts all assigned duties in a professional, ethical manner that protects the rights and dignity of all clients, staff, and partners.
  • Provides therapeutic services for individuals (children, youth, & adults), couples, and families in accordance with professional standards and best practices.
  • Establish positive, respectful, supportive professional relationships with clients.
  • Conscientiously perform client assessment to adequately diagnosis presenting problem.
  • Prioritize client concerns appropriate for 12 session model of services.
  • Implement best practice based treatment strategies that appropriately address client goals.
  • Provide education and referrals as necessary.
  • Properly maintain clinical chart documentation.
  • Complete and submit timely, accurate, and detailed administrative paperwork as required.
  • Maintain and update appointment schedule.
  • Participate in required training throughout the year.
  • Adhere to Catholic Charities policies and procedures.
  • Attend weekly supervision as required.
  • Remain updated, timely, and fully responsible for any BBS requirements in your field.
  • Represents the mission, values, and spirit of Catholic Charities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or in a related Mental Health field from an accredited school.
  • Registered Associate Marriage & Family Therapist, Associate Professional Clinical Counselor or Associate Clinical Social Worker in good standing with the CA BBS.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Have a passion to serve low-income, under-served populations.
  • Be available to provide a minimum of ten (10) appointment slots in late afternoons, evenings and/or weekends.
  • Possess awareness and understanding of scope of practice related to your profession, limitations of service, and your competencies.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted professional therapeutic modalities.
  • An understanding of crisis management with the ability to respond calmly and effectively in critical situations.
  • Exceptional professional skills including communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • An ability to work independently while demonstrating the highest level of professional integrity and ethical behavior.
  • Willingness to utilize clinical supervision to increase competencies and provide services that are always in the best interest of the client.
  • Awareness of legal and ethical mandates pertinent to the role of an associate level therapist.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENT

Includes but not limited to considerable use of arms and legs, whole body movement, walking, lifting, and stooping, standing, sitting, lifting and carrying up to 25lbs., pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, hearing, speaking, seeing, reaching, repetitive forward bending, repetitive arm/hand motions, prolonged gripping of an item, repetitive hand/finger movements.
