About the Role

You will provide mental health therapeutic support to students, on an individual and/or group basis, in school settings within the city of Sonoma and/or Santa Rosa. You will work collaboratively with school guidance counselors, staff, teachers and parents to support students in removing mental health and behavioral barriers to learning. You will work closely with a supportive team of other youth and family therapists, clinical supervisors, and program leadership in working toward SAY’s mission to support the most vulnerable youth where they need it most.

A Day in the Life

  • Work with students who are having difficulties with social-emotional issues using individual sessions and small groups.
  • Provide in class mental health wellness lessons as requested.
  • Work in close and professional collaboration with school academic counselors and other staff/teachers.
  • Provide students and families with outside resources and referrals in cases of higher clinical need.
  • Complete all documentation and keep up-to-date electronic records.
  • Collaborate with other service providers including other therapists and community partner agencies.
  • Participate in support meetings, team meeting, individual supervision (if needed), small group supervision and/or licensed consultation.
  • Respond in a positive and respectful manner to diversity among the agency’s service population and staff.
  • Use evidenced based practices in individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Consult and provide training to teachers and other staff to assist them with planning and implementing interventions to increase academic performance.
  • Engage with clinical supervisor for support in processing services provided as well as any needs when completing documentation.
  • Follow all laws regarding confidentiality, mandated reporting, and HIPAA
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

About You

Registration/License

  • Holds a valid license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), Licensed Clinical Psychologist OR
  • Has a Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, or other related social service field AND is on a licensure track toward the above-mentioned licenses.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum of two years of experience providing mental health support to youth and families, experience in a school setting preferred.
  • Knowledge and compliance of child welfare reporting laws.
  • Experienced and successful with detailed documentation and assessment.
  • Able to work independently at various school sites.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated awareness of sensitivity to, and competence in, working with cultural and socioeconomically diverse students.
  • Proven ability to develop rapport and trust with youth, families and school personnel and ability to engage students who may be reluctant to seek services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality as set forth by the mental health professional ethical standards related to client information while balancing the need for collaboration with school professionals.
