Summary:
Encompass Community Services is seeking a dynamic counselor to work full-time (30-40 hours per week) in our Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Outpatient Program both in a community clinic and in-custody setting. This counselor will provide group and individual sessions to individuals who are referred through the County Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System. Currently due to COVID-19, this position primarily works remotely providing telehealth services. Travel to and from Santa Cruz and Watsonville clinics is also required occasionally to provide limited in-person treatment services.
The ideal candidate will be excited about providing substance use disorder treatment to individuals of marginalized populations, experiencing intergenerational cycles of trauma, and recovery from institutionalization. The ideal candidate believes in the individual capacity to heal and recover and sees themselves as a guide and partner in the treatment process. The ideal candidate sees themselves as a life-long learner, approaches conflict with curiosity and understanding, and is good at holding boundaries with self and others. The counselor will be responsible for providing intake and discharge planning sessions, ASAM assessments of clients, and facilitating 1.5-hour groups using the Matrix curriculum for SUD groups.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Facilitate and deliver evidenced based Matrix curriculum for in custody and clinic based SUD groups
· Provide telehealth services for individuals and groups as required by County Shelter In Place guidelines and updated public health guidelines.
· Provide individual intakes and assessments, providing program overview, requirements, and expectations and completing the ASAM assessment tool.
· Assess clients for appropriateness in group as well as identify other needs to be addressed
· Provide one-on-one individual counseling sessions to clients that have higher behavioral and clinical needs
· Provide case management referrals for identified co-occurring needs of individual clients
· Clinically document an individual’s participation in group
· Conduct assessments using the American Society for Addiction Medicine (ASAM ), mental health risk assessments
· Complete necessary Avatar billing and documentation requirements at a 70% productivity rate per week.
· Adhere to all mandated reporting requirements
· Maintain active clinical licensure and/or drug and alcohol counseling certification at all times.
· Provide exit/discharge session
· Act as a liaison with referral sources, i.e. county behavioral health, CPS, probation
· May be assigned to facilitate other groups as needed
· Document client contacts, referrals, consultation with adjunct providers, probation officers, etc.
· Maintain data spreadsheets for appropriate client and data tracking and reporting.
Minimum Requirements
This position’s minimum requirements may be met using a combination of education, work experience, additional certifications, and/or lived experience. However a drug and alcohol counselor certification (CDAC or RADT) or registration (ASW or AMFT) with the Board of Behavioral Sciences is required according to Drug Medi-Cal requirements. Please note that this position is entry level with the intention of professional development towards becoming a licensed clinical practitioner. Please see the below options for minimum requirements:
OPTION 1
· A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in humanities, sociology, psychology, social work, or another related counseling/social justice field, with the intention of pursuing a graduate clinical degree (MSW, MFT) in the next 1-2 years.
· At least 1 year post education professional experience of providing counseling/clinical services to the domestic violence client population or court mandated clients.
· CDAC or RADT certification required.
OPTION 2
· Currently enrolled in a masters-level program in social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, or a related clinical field, with the intention of pursuing a clinical license with the BBS post-graduation.
· BBS Licensed or Registered Interns preferred (AMFT/ASW), clinical supervision provided for licensure
General minimum requirements for all applicants
· Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred
· Must be able to obtain clearance to work at the local jail facility
· All applicants will complete a criminal background check and must be approved to provide services to court mandated clients
· Must have active driver’s license and the ability to drive one’s own car
· Proficient writing skills and computer skills
· Strong knowledge and values regarding professional ethics and boundaries
· Ability to work collaboratively in teams and is a life-long learner
· Values cultural diversity and practices using cultural humility
· Regularly uses a trauma-informed approach when working with clients
· Has active clinical registration number with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or active drug and alcohol counselor certification (RADT or CDAC)
