As an Unaccompanied Minor (UM) Therapist in a Girl’s Shelter setting, you will be primarily responsible for providing group therapy and clinical support to program participants and clients with a wide range of issues including trafficking in accordance with federal, state, and agency requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide intake psychosocial and risk assessments within 72 hours of client arrival into the program;
  • Provide trafficking assessments within 5 days of client arrival into the program;
  • Provide individual counseling sessions up to the allotted maximum client number in accordance with agency, federal, and/or state expectations;
  • Conduct additional counseling sessions with children and their families to aide in the reunification process;
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions twice per week with all clients in the program;
  • Draft and maintain regular reports on client assessments and treatment progress;
  • Provide the Program Supervisor with updates on client progress and treatment goals on a weekly basis;
  • Maintain an awareness of current trends and relevant evidence-based practices to recommend changes in agency policy and practice to advance the use of appropriate clinical interventions and training;
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical notes and records for all clients on a weekly basis;
  • Stay abreast of all agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements related to social services;
  • Attend internal and external trainings, and apply newly gained knowledge on the job;
  • Serve as a translator both verbal and written communication for program clientele and staff, when needed;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling or related field of study from an accredited college;
  • Active professional licensure in California in accordance with therapy licensing requirements (applicable by state requirements);
  • At least three (3) years of post-educational experience counseling;
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish;
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and creative;
  • Prior experience working with refugee and/or minority families with cross-cultural sensitivity;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated clinical, therapeutic, and crisis intervention skills;
  • Must have an ability to provide excellent and compassionate customer service;
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport with clients to help them adjust to new life circumstances;
  • Ability to work independently and exercise a high level of confidentiality;
  • Computer and typing skills sufficient to perform essential job functions;
  • Active motor vehicle license and a reliable vehicle with adequate insurance coverage;
  • Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
  • Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith, Mission Statement, and Cultural Diversity Commitment.
