Basic Function/Overview:
Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities:
• Provide comprehensive counseling services to a culturally diverse student population, including academic, career and personal counseling.
• Assist in planning, developing, documenting and executing specific services, programs and activities pertaining to the Student Success and Support Program Plan ( SSSP ).
• Counsel students in education planning, including assisting students in discovering and clarifying their educational and career goals.
• Conduct new student orientations.
• Teach counseling courses and facilitate workshops.
• Counsel students on probation and facing dismissal; make referrals to appropriate interventions.
• Attend department, committee, and division meetings; serve on college committees.
• Participate in professional and co-curricular activities.
• Use and keep abreast of advanced counseling methods, including the use of current and future technologies.
• Participate in curriculum development.
• Perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities, College policies, division policies and department policies.
• Maintain scheduled office and campus hours.
• Late afternoon and/or evening assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
A. The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
1. A Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling, or the equivalent. ( NOTE : A bachelor’s degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist ( MFT ) is an alternative qualification for this discipline per title 5, section 53410.1); OR
2. California Community College credential, “Valid for Life” (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor or a counselor. (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential AND transcripts must be submitted with the application).
B. Conditions of Employment:
This is a full-time, tenure-track, 11-month contract position that begins in the 2015-16 academic year. Placement on the salary schedule is based on formal education, full-time and/or part-time teaching, and related work experience, up to a maximum placement at step 9.
Official offers of employment are made by Mt. San Antonio College Human Resources and are made contingent upon Board approval. It is also required that a final offer of employment will only be made after the candidate has successfully been livescanned and clearance for employment is authorized by Human Resources. Costs for livescan services shall be borne by the candidate.

Selection Procedure:
A committee will evaluate applications, taking into account breadth and depth of relevant education, training, experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities. Interviews may include a writing sample, committee presentation, teaching demonstration, and/or performance test. The committee will recommend finalists to the Vice President of Student Services for a second interview. The number of vacancies is dependent on student enrollment, College resources, needs, and Board of Trustees’ approval. The starting date will be determined following Board approval and receipt of livescan clearance.
TRAVEL POLICY : Costs associated with travel in excess of 150 miles one way from residence for the purpose of an interview will be reimbursed up to $500 maximum. Relocation costs will be borne by the successful candidate.
