  • BASIC PURPOSE: To provide high quality psychotherapy groups that offer a range of therapeutic interventions and treatment services to adolescent males and females in crisis. To provide direction to floor staff (LVNs, Floor leaders, and Client Care Specialists) and to ensure that the program runs according to the milieu schedule at all times.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Generate individualized treatment plans for each client on the caseload. Therapist prepares a master problem list, comprehensive treatment plan (s), an amalgamated summary and an admissions behavior contract for each identified problem within 72 hours of intake. Master problem list, comprehensive treatment plan and amalgamated summary must be signed by the psychiatrist, clinical services manager, therapist, the client and the parent within six working days.
  • Responsible for generating weekly behavior contracts for assigned clients.
  • Discuss caseload with psychiatrist once per week.
  • Therapist provides individual therapy and family therapy to assigned adolescents and their family for a total of four contacts per week.
  • Ensure individual and family session note is written and uploaded into the client file the same day that session was conducted.
  • Establishes rapport with new clients by meeting with new intake client for an individual session within 24 hours of intake and calls parents to provide an update on how client is adjusting to the program within the same timeframe.
  • Therapist is responsible for educating the parents to the adolescent’s overall and weekly treatment goals via telephone communications a minimum of twice per week.
  • Lead the weekly treatment team meeting and complete accompanying documentation indicating whether weekly objectives have been met.
  • Therapist is responsible for completing weekend passes/visits, if any, for the adolescents in the residential program. Therapist gives a copy of the weekend passes/visits to the staff so that it can be posted at the facility on Saturday. Passes are due and distributed via email by Friday at 5:00pm weekly.
  • Maintain good communication with Clinical Services Manager by submitting weekly schedule of sessions.
  • Responsible for running daily psycho-educational groups and submitting documentation of said groups on the same day that the group was conducted.
  • Documentation must meet the highest standard of care including correct labeling with two identifiers and including the accurate problem list from the Master Problem List
  • Submit insightful documentation daily that is precise and free from grammatical errors.
  • Actively seek out creative tools, materials, and resources to provide superior learning in each group especially regarding DBT, CBT and addictions groups.
  • Maintain an atmosphere in the group environment that is conductive to allowing clients to feel safe and free to be vulnerable and take risks.
  • Encourage clients to accept constructive feedback in group and teach clients how to provide feedback that is candid but not crippling to their peers.
  • Challenge clients to set realistic goals for themselves in treatment, welcome new clients in treatment with introductory groups and process discharging clients with a goodbye group prior to discharge.
  • Serve as a positive role model to treatment staff, employees, clients, guests, and the public at large through a positive, caring and professional attitude.
  • Posses a thorough knowledge of group running techniques that are advantageous for adolescents
  • Spearhead the development and continuance of the Parent Support Groups to aid parents in generating specific skills that will aid them when their child returns home.
  • Meet with the clinical services manager as needed to discuss areas of improvement and receive feedback
  • Oversee, direct, and manage the floor staff to ensure that clients are receiving serves in compliance with the Joint Commission standards, licensing and all Adolescent Growth policy and procedures.
  • Provide a listening ear to clients in crisis, then give guidance and take the initiative to consult with the clinical services manager and make decisions to ensure the safety of all staff and clients.
  • Maintain the confidential nature of clients and related activities
  • Provide direct supervision outside of the group during breaks, school time and as needed to fill in when other staff are not available
  • Other duties as assigned

CORE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

  • Experience working with adolescents age 12-17 years old
  • Crisis management experience
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of psychopathology; diagnostic assessment; dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorders; addiction treatment and related treatment interventions.
  • Must demonstrate leadership ability and knowledge of program goals
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to cope constructively with stressful situations
