Cortica, a leading provider of advanced neurological therapies for children with autism and other conditions that impact brain development, is seeking to hire a Family Wellness Counselor at our clinic in San Rafael, CA.

First and foremost, this role is about being an extraordinary clinician. Compassion for this unique population and a dedication to upholding the highest standard of clinical care is essential.

The position involves approximately 65% time in direct counseling (including initial assessments and follow up sessions) and 35% time is spent in team collaboration, care coordination (including intake, treatment planning) and other administrative activities associated with building a new clinic.

The Family Wellness Counselor role includes the following responsibilities:

  • Educating families in Cortica’s approach to comprehensive care for autism and other neurodevelopmental differences
  • Supporting family members in implementing recommended techniques and strategies from the interdisciplinary care plan at home
  • Participating in family care meetings with other providers
  • Coordinating information sharing among team members and between the professional team and family members
  • Advocating/collaborating in the design and scheduling of a child’s therapy program
  • Actively fostering collaboration among the interdisciplinary team in order to evaluate a child’s progress, develop effective strategies, and ensure that team recommendations are understood and implemented across settings
  • Attending narrative group and individual supervision weekly
  • Utilizing Narrative Therapy techniques to deliver direct client counseling to families, couples, and children (patients and their siblings)
  • Building then maintaining a full caseload of 25-30 sessions per week
  • Complying with clinic policies and California BBS legal requirements by fostering practices that adhere to the standards of care and ethical guidelines, including confidentiality and mandated reporting
  • Adhering to – and supporting other team members adherence to – organizational standards and policies
  • Cultivating a high standard of relational ethics within the organization for both team members and client families
  • Interfacing with community services/resources and school systems and assisting families with transitions between in-clinic services and the community/school

This role provides clinicians with the opportunity to work with leaders in the field of child development and to broaden their clinical knowledge across disciplines through collaboration with master practitioners across neurological, sensorimotor, communication, and behavior therapies.

What are the required qualifications?

  • Masters in Social Work, Marriage-Family Therapy, or Professional Clinical Counseling from an accredited program
  • Registration with California BBS as an AMFT
  • Passion for providing exceptional client care and for using client feedback to improve care
  • 1+ year of experience working with children or families with developmental differences
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, both conversational and technical
