Job Description
We are looking for a licensed or BBS registered Therapist!

The Family Therapist is responsible for providing educational services via topic groups and facilitates/co-facilitates specialty groups. She/He functions as a team member in cooperation with Primary Therapists.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Displays the necessary skills to work with complex family issues in a group setting. Assesses each family member’s level of functioning. Refers for additional assessment when appropriate.
  • Knowledgeable of individual patient and family dynamics in the early stages of treatment.
  • Prepares family members for experiential work utilizing a format suitable to the family’s unique needs. Demonstrates creativity and sensitivity while facilitating this work.
  • Is prepared to conduct primary group sessions, grief sessions and to co-facilitate disclosure sessions.
  • Conducts Topic Groups, displaying good theoretical knowledge of subject matter and effective communication skills in delivering material.
  • Completes all documentation including treatment planning, progress notes and discharge summary maintaining compliance with the policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Maintains appropriate and timely communication with family members and other significant contacts conveying a positive professional image.
  • Participates as a team player in A New Journey staff milieu (i.e. active member of the treatment team, works harmoniously with other staff, participates in training activities).
  • Utilizes supervisory feedback to improve performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters or Bachelors degree in behavioral sciences or related field.
  • Three (3) years experience in counseling families preferred
  • Minimum six (6) months experience/education working with chemical dependency.
  • Minimum six (6) months experience working with and or study of adolescents.
  • May be licensed independently or by the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences as a professional counselor, marriage and family counselor, social worker or an associate counselor working towards licensure.
