About the Position

San Luis Obispo County Behavioral Health Services is developing a culturally competent public mental health workforce, which includes clients and family members, sufficient in size, diversity, skills and resources to deliver compassionate, safe, timely and effective mental health services to individuals who are in need and contributes to increased wellness, recovery and resilience for the people in our community.

The Behavioral Health department is currently seeking a full time permanent Veterans Outreach Mental Health Therapist III/IV. This position works specifically with the populations of discharged military personnel and veterans. In this program, the incumbent will provide behavioral health services (outreach, case management, early intervention and treatment.). The incumbent will conduct initial briefings and process with participants at the point of the intervention, and follow-up assessment and treatment

Candidates must possess knowledge and familiarity with treating individuals with post traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and co-occuring disorders. This position requires the incumbent to work independently and in accordance with community veteran activity schedules, including evenings and weekends for outreach activities, and follow-up appointments with participants.

The Ideal candidate

While a veteran, or veteran’s family member is preferred, the Therapist position will be best filled by an engaging practitioner with strong outreach skills and knowledge of veteran culture and local resources.

Minimum Qualifications:

Mental Health Therapist III: Either A: A two-year Masters Degree from an accredited institution in social work or other mental health related program and no experience; Or B:A one-year Masters Degree from an accredited institution in a mental health related field and two years of experience in a mental health setting; Or C: Five years of professional mental health therapy experience.

Mental Health Therapist IV: Either A: A Ph.D. in a mental health related field; Or B: Four years of experience as a Mental Health Therapist III or an equivalent position.
