Youth and Family Counseling helps children, teens and families find constructive solutions to challenges that arise in school, at home, and with peers.  Serving 2,000 youth and families each year, provides substance abuse treatment, emergency foster care, counseling and support. Our counseling is personalized to meet the individual needs of youth and to enhance the strengths and assets of each family. We provide individual, group and family counseling for youth and families facing the challenges that arise in the process of growing up.

Job Summary:

We have a Full Time position for Bilingual Youth and Family Counselor. The clinician provides mental health services in both Spanish and English to children and youth ages 3-20 who reside in the Watsonville area and have Medi-Cal. Services are provided in the clinic, the schools and occasionally the home. Clinicians must maintain electronic mental health records and document and bill services, including diagnosis and treatment plans.  This new position augments a supportive team of eight clinicians and is supervised by an LCSW.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and family counseling and parenting support for youth and their families.
  • Maintain mental health Medi-Cal documentation to the highest standards and bill services as required.
  • Represent Encompass Community Services in a professional manner and be a positive team player.
  • Coordinate with the county psychiatrist and other providers to support the client.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a behavioral science (for example, MSW or MA or MS in Counseling) required
  • At least two years counseling experience with children, teens and their families.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish and cultural competence required.
  • Knowledge of child development, family dynamics, trauma and its effects, substance abuse, domestic violence, immigration/acculturation, and issues facing at-risk youth,
  • Skills in coaching parents, crisis intervention, and various types of counseling techniques (such as play, art, cognitive, behavioral, motivational).
  • Demonstrated ability to have strong relationships with clients and colleagues, and to incorporate supervisor’s feedback.
  • Ability to maintain complex clinical documentation electronically and to manage time well.

Wages & Benefits:

Salary based on education, skills, experience and bilingual ability.  Our total compensation package includes a comprehensive medical and dental insurance plan, 403(b) retirement plan, paid holiday & sick time, and 17 days of paid vacation, pro-rated for positions less than 40 hours a week.

Weekly individual supervision with a licensed therapist (LCSW or MFT) is provided to all counselors. Group supervision with an LCSW is provided if needed toward licensure.
