This full-time position has primary responsibility for mental health services and case management services to children or adolescents and their families. The Mental Health Specialist provides mental health services including engagement evaluation, case management and other services to clients referred to the Community Services Program. He/she acts as liaison with external agencies and functions on teams with other clinical & support staff. Documents and bills for mental health and case management services and completes outcomes information. As designated (and certified), position may require provision of services in a threshold language other than English (i.e. Spanish).
Job duties:
Documents client’s behaviors and responses in medical records by producing clear, concise and timely professional documentation and correspondence in accordance with county and agency protocols.
Provides support services on an outpatient basis including mental health services and case management and case management brokerage services.
Appropriately completes all required forms, chart reviews and chart updates in a timely manner and in accordance with agency protocols.
Accurately complete all required outcome instruments as per scope of practice.
May serve as a Coordinator for assigned clients, however, requires signature of qualified professionals for approval of Coordination Plans and Service Plans.
Works with children and families to provide support and rehabilitation services as needed, outlined in the Service Plan and as per scope of practice.
Provides effective individual/family rehabilitation and case management services.
Works with referred adolescents, their families, representatives of referring agencies, and other relevant parties (in-house and external) to promote rehabilitation and amelioration of problems which interfere with productive social and emotional daily living.
Acts as liaison with various external agencies (such as Department of Children and Family Services, Department of Mental Health, Probation Department, Dependency Court, and police) to facilitate youngsters’ adjustment in daily living routines.
Assists in preparing youngsters for lasting and successful housing, vocational, educational, and treatment experiences. Services include a “whatever it takes” approach and include rehabilitation counseling, shadowing, training, modeling and other interventions deemed necessary and as per scope of practice.
Availability to assist in crisis intervention and provide support and assistance in problem resolution.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a Mental Health Field plus four years experience in a mental health field, or; Master’s degree in a Mental Health Field plus two years experience in a mental health field.
Above experience should be with children or adolescents (preferred) in residential or outpatient settings.
Valid California Driver’s License.
