The Therapist Trainee provides therapy services on-site or in the field as needed for children up to age 21 and their families. The Trainee supports the client and his/her family in meeting their mental health goals. Therapy is focused on healing mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder, problems in the parent-child relationship, or other social-emotional challenges with the ultimate goal of restoring children and families to a healthy level of functioning. The Trainee provides written documentation of all client, family and case management contacts, and meets Medi-Cal documentation standards in writing of notes.

Therapeutic Responsibilities

Creates a treatment plan with measurable and observable goals in collaboration with supervisor, client, and caregivers.

·         Participates in completion of clinical assessment with clients to assess their strengths and needs from a perspective clinical.

Provides developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions for children and families. Therapy services are often provided during after-school and evening hours when most convenient for clients.

Coordinates with other agencies when appropriate to implement treatment plan.

Maintains confidentiality of all information.

Maintains cooperative working relationships with parents, families, and clients.

Maintain a minimum of 60% documentable clinical time.

Participates in individual and group clinical supervision on a weekly basis. Seeks guidance from Clinical Supervisor to handle complex client issues.

Completes all agency required documentation, including progress notes and assessments, in a timely manner and according to agency policy and best practice.

Completes items on Electronic Health Record task list in a timely manner

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: MFT Trainee or ASW, from an accredited university or college, or Psychological Assistant required. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations. Experience working with complex issues surrounding children and families preferred. Experience working with Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Model preferred. Previous experience working in the nonprofit sector highly desirable.

Able to prioritize competing responsibilities, with effective time management skills.

Able to demonstrate mature judgment and critical thinking.

Strong interpersonal skills, willing team member and supportive colleague.

Respect for confidentiality; ability to work with discretion and integrity.

Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Outlook.

Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Able to get along well with others and work collaboratively in a positive manner.

Must have valid CA drivers’ license, clean DMV, and criminal record clearance from DOJ.

Salary is DOE. Benefits include 100% Employer paid medical, dental and health insurance. Paid vacation and sick leave and a 403(b).
