Mental Health Therapist / Clinician – Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI)

Hillview Mental Health Center, Inc., a non-profit organization, located in the Northeast San Fernando Valley has been serving the largest low-income communities in Los Angeles County since 1966. Hillview provides a full range of mental health services through our outpatient and residential programs, including medication evaluation and treatment, targeted case management, substance use counseling, and individual and group therapy. Hillview’s multi-disciplinary team is committed to serving individuals aged 18 and older and their families affected by mental illness and economic challenges.

We are currently recruiting to hire a Mental Health Therapist / Clinician (PsyD/PhD, MSW, or MFT-waivered/registered or licensed) to join our PEI Team! **Please note that Hillview is able to provide individual and group supervision and training for unlicensed therapists who are looking for clinical hours towards licensure.**

The PEI program was designed to provide prevention and early intervention services, education support and outreach efforts to help inform, identify, and treat individuals, their families, and our community in hopes of preventing or decrease the need for long term mental health treatment.

Duties for the position include:

  • Completing initial intake assessment of new clients using DSM V Diagnostic Criteria
  • Providing individual therapy using Evidence Based Practices (e.g., CBT, IPT, Seeking Safety)
  • Providing Targeted Case Management services for assigned client caseload
  • Providing Crisis Intervention as needed
  • Providing education, outreach, and engagement services for community partners and potential consumers
  • Adhering to Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LA DMH) documentation and charting practices using Electronic Health Records.

Minimum requirements include:

  • One to two years’ experience working in the mental health field.
  • Ability to make independent decisions as well as work well in a team atmosphere
  • Proficient with written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to work Monday – Friday 9am-5:30pm, and be on-call after hours on a shared rotation.
  • If licensed, obtain Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LA DMH) Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Designation in order to execute involuntary holds.
  • Must provide a valid California driver’s license and proof of insurance information prior to start date and thereafter, on an annual basis. A clear and insurable driving record is also mandatory.
  • Ability to pass a thorough background check. Ability to pass thorough background check, Hillview will consider for employment all qualified Applicants, including those with Criminal Histories, in a manner consistent with applicable state and local laws, including the City of Los Angeles’ Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Masters Degree (Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy) or Doctoral Degree (PsyD/PhD) and Licensure or Registration with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS)
