Program Description:
MHS School Based Program provides mental health services to students at eleven schools in the San Diego Unified School District. We serve students in specified schools, ages 5 to 18 years old, who are Medi-Cal eligible or MHSA eligible (without insurance) and who are struggling with: Academic Success, Anxiety, Alcohol or other drug use, ADHD or Defiant/Oppositional behaviors, Depression, and Emotional hardships

The program helps our clients reach their potential and achieve success in school, at home and in the community. We work with them toward specific goals, such as increasing school attendance, improving school performance, and decreasing any further school related problems. Our therapists meet weekly with teachers and/or school counselors to ensure effective communication and make certain that integrated services are provided.

Position Description:
-Maintains a caseload as prescribed by the Program Manager.
-Provides individual and family counseling, crisis intervention, symptom management information and case management to each client.
-Performs assessments mental health services clients.
-Initiates appropriate and timely interventions.
-Integrates clinical concepts with sound theoretical and practical applications of rehabilitative, individual, and group counseling principles. Demonstrates and supports a strong working knowledge of Psycho-social Rehabilitation practices and principles.
-Maintains timely, accurate and legible documentation using assigned forms and formats for each client in their caseload.
-Responsible for medical record documentation per contract and Medi-Cal requirements.
-Consults with attending psychiatrist regarding medication and treatment of clients.

Education/Experience Requirements:
-A minimum of a Master’s degree in social service field.
-Registered with the BBS as IMF or ASW
-A minimum of two years’ experience working in a mental health setting.
-At least two years working with behavioral health and dually diagnosed population.
-Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.

The PEI Therapist provides high quality individual and groups to children, TAY (transitional age youth) and adults.
