The New Beginnings Center for Counseling and Integrative Health has served the Ventura County community since 1982. The Center is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of practitioners that includes licensed Marriage Family Therapists, licensed Physical Therapist, licensed bodyworker, registered dietician, and MD. The Center provides a wide variety of outpatient mental and integrative health services, and specializes in somatic approaches to healing and health.
The Center is looking for qualified MFT Interns interested in gaining experience in treating trauma, eating disorders, and group psychotherapy. Develop your general practice, working with children/adolescents and their families, as well as adults and couples. Begin to build your private practice and develop your specialty. We provide opportunities and support for developing CEU presentations on your areas of special interest. Individual and group supervision, training and client opportunities are provided for a fee split.
Qualifications: Registered Intern number and professional liability insurance. Prior experience in co-leading groups a plus. Interest in working with complex diagnoses and treatment applications. Desire to work in a treatment team, coordinating care with other therapists, doctors, psychiatrists, and dieticians. Motivation to network and build marketing plan for private practice.
Position Requirements: Minimum one year contract commitment. Available to co-lead 1-2 weekly evening therapy or support groups. Videotaping of client sessions and live supervision within both individual and group supervision settings. Commitment to attending local professional organizations and training opportunities. Weekly work schedule: 10 hours per week minimum.
Supervisors: Susan L. Richter MFT, CEDS, SEP has over 30 years’ experience providing individual and group psychotherapy treatment to those with eating disorders, trauma, anxiety and depression. A Certified Eating Disorders Specialist trained in Somatic Experiencing and EMDR, Susan is an IAEDP Approved Supervisor and Clinical Director of New Beginnings’ intern training program. She presents at national conferences on eating disorders and chemical dependency, and has served on the faculty of the Rosewood Institute. Susan is also the founding President of the Central Coast chapter of IAEDP.
Sean Susan Baker MFT, SEP combines body-mind centered techniques to resolve clients’ distress related to trauma, eating disorders, medical conditions and self-harm behaviors. Certified in Somatic Experiencing and Gestalt therapy, Sean specializes in adolescent, adult, family and group therapy. As a professor at Pepperdine University and clinical supervisor at New Beginnings, she provides training in group process, Gestalt therapy and trauma treatment. Sean serves as the Central Coast Chapter President of IAEDP and presents at national conferences on the integration of Somatic Experiencing into eating disorder and chemical dependency treatment.
