Purpose: The Primary Therapist at A New Start Treatment and Recovery does not just facilitate individual sessions, but is actually the point person of the client’s treatment and trajectory.

Reports to: Executive Director

Direct Reports: N/A

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees documentation in clinical section of each client’s electronic health record and quality assurance for deficiencies.
  • Attends and participates in clinical team meetings.
  • Completes clinical assessment and treatment plan for assigned clients.
  • Initiates discharge planning upon admission for assigned clients, and updates discharge plan weekly.
  • Facilitates comprehensive evaluation and diagnostic summary for assigned clients.
  • Facilitates multi-disciplinary treatment planning and updates for assigned clients (ensures inclusion of all treatment modalities/ disciplines).
  • Individual sessions for all assigned clients (at least weekly).
  • Group counseling, education, and meetings per program schedule.
  • Extends 80% of the caseload.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with client’s family/support system throughout duration of client’s treatment.
  • Family/conjoint therapy as specified in individual client’s treatment plans.
  • Coordinates treatment objectives for assigned clients with Resident Advisor Supervisor, Executive Director, and pertinent staff.
  • Coordination of all treatment services needed for assigned client caseload.
  • Supports aftercare program by meeting with alumni on an as-needed basis (when approved by Executive Director). Participates in alumni and referral source events pertinent to the facility.
  • Provides daily clinical progress note in client’s electronic health record.
  • Participates in in-service training, individual/group supervision meetings, and counselor/residential staff interface meeting.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualifications:
  • Understanding of the 12 Steps.
  • 2 years sobriety if personally represented as “recovering”.
  • Knowledge:
  • Masters in Clinical Psychology or Social Work
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Experience:
  • 2 + years experience in the field of alcohol and/or other drug services.
  • Skills:
  • Computer competence (Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and clients.
