The Women’s Center Support Counselor provides individual counseling and facilitation of support groups. In addition to direct support services, this person performs outreach and collaboration with community partners and GLIDE programs, assists with new intakes, screening/assessment, and supports women through service planning and/or crisis intervention. The Support Counselor advocates for healing and empowerment for every woman who comes to GLIDE for respite and support by using the harm reduction model.

Also, this position offers opportunities to work collaboratively with agency staff to design and implement activities that will address issues of oppression, trauma from, but not limited to interpersonal and community violence, addiction, stress management, poverty and its ancillary issues. Lastly, the Support Counselor also provides support to the Women’s Center’s interns and volunteers.

The Support Counselor maintains a collaborative and harmonious team environment in the Center, and promotes an atmosphere of truth-telling, unconditional acceptance, dignity, and recovery for everyone.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in related behavioral health or human service-related field desired, OR Bachelor’s degree in psychology or other health and human services fields and two (2) years’ experience providing counseling, crisis support, or social services to adults and families, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Experience working with marginalized populations, especially with African American women, families with a history of incarceration, and individuals from the transgender community desired;
Certification or training in domestic violence and substance use/addiction services helpful;
Knowledge of intimate partner violence education, substance use/addiction, prevention and intervention approaches, harm reduction, wellness and recovery principles, and trauma-informed care with demonstrated ability to learn and apply techniques pertaining to co-dependency and anger management helpful.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitate ongoing drop-in group and closed support groups for women who are survivors of domestic violence, addiction, trauma, poverty, and other related issues;
Provide crisis intervention and individual counseling for women seeking support;
Provide enrollment to GLIDE programs, screening/assessment, service planning, and documentation of services;
Provide targeted case management, including the collection and maintenance of information on current health and social services in the Tenderloin and neighboring communities for participants;
Participate in service coordination and collaboration with other GLIDE programs and community partners;
Distribute and collect evaluations and other data as directed;
Conduct outreach throughout GLIDE, in shelters, drop-in centers, hotels, prisoner re-entry programs and other locations in the Tenderloin and surrounding areas and maintain high visibility in the community.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Competence in service coordination, collaboration, and networking with other human service and health care providers. Ability to advocate and broker services and other community resources for adults and families;
Demonstrated ability to learn and apply client-centered, restorative justice, and strength-based techniques to support the development of communication, coping skills, and development of knowledge and abilities in other areas of life functioning.
