Job Title: SCHOOL-BASED MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR

Salary: $43,000-49,000 DOE, plus benefits

Job Purpose:

Providing counseling & therapy services to inner city children and their families dealing with school behavior problems at elementary/middle schools. We have severals positions available, both part-time and full-time at different schools in Richmond, San Pablo and Berkeley.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Set up & conduct sessions with students who have been referred.
  • Provide individual, group and family therapy sessions.
  • Work with school staff, teachers, administrators and parents to coordinate services.
  • Complete adequate paperwork in a timely manner and keeping all appropriate records.
  • Attend weekly clinical meetings for supervision, guidance and support.
  • Be an active participant of the clinical team.
  • Provide services to clients in an ethical, legal and professional manner, including HIPPA, CAMFT and NASW standards.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all agency policies and regulations.
  • Display sensitivity to cross cultural issues related to race, ethnicity, nationality, class, religion, and sexual orientation.

Skills:

  • Experience working in schools with elementary school-aged children in a multicultural, diverse, urban community.
  • Experience working in collaboration with parents, teachers and school staff.
  • Experience with Medi-cal paperwork a plus.
  • Spanish language highly desirable.

Knowledge:

  • Masters Degree in either Counseling, Clinical Social Work or Psychology.
  • Licensed or close to licensure preferred.

  • Ability to maintain goals and priorities in dealing with varying challenges;
  • Ability to be flexible in working with people and organizations with different viewpoints.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
