Assessment Specialist for Veterans Village of San Diego’s program at St. Vincent de Paul

Full Time, 40 hours a week, Monday thru Friday

Must have minimum of 6 months of experience working with adults and experience in dealing with Veterans issues is preferred

  • Must have an MSW, or be pre-licensed clinician (MFT Intern, MSW Intern)
  • Understanding of issues affecting Veterans issues
  • Ability to recognize drug and alcohol abuse and report it to superiors
  • Knowledge of CSTAR a plus
  • Experience working with adult homeless population preferred
  • Able to assess and diagnose pursuant to DSM IV criteria
  • Must be able to fluently read, write and communicate in English
  • Must be able to comfortably, both mentally and physically, perform all aspects of job description in addition to other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Must be able to comfortably sit for long periods of time
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screen

Job Summary

Supervised by VVSD COO and SVdP

Meet with assigned Veteran clients and perform bio-psycho-social assessment, develop comprehensive plan recommendation and make referrals to appropriate medical, mental health and addiction services.

  • Interview Veterans and complete psycho-social assessments
  • Make informed recommendations about which track a Veteran should be assigned to and the services the Veteran would benefit from, showing special awareness of needs, strengths and symptoms of Veterans
  • Identify physical health, mental health and addiction issues of Veterans and make appropriate and timely referrals for services
  • Administer standardized assessments to Veterans, interpret assessment results, write summary reports and make recommendations based on the results
  • Maintain accurate and timely files for Veterans including completing case plan narratives, case notes and completing CSTAR service entries
  • Complete functional assessments with Veterans assigned to the Veterans Team to support the Veterans application for permanent benefits
  • Assist Veterans Team members with preparation of medical summary reports needed for permanent benefits applications
  • Under supervision of licensed clinician, provide ongoing assessment and intervention to Veterans with a variety of mental health symptoms using individual and group processing formats
  • Attend multidisciplinary team meetings and present information, when required
  • Co-facilitate a Veterans support group, weekly, at SVdP
  • Attend all required staff meetings and training’s at VVSD and SVdP
  • Adhere to all VVSD and SVdP policies and procedures
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect to Child Protective Services (CPS) and elder abuse to the Elder Abuse Hotline
  • Function as team member to accomplish program and agency goals
  • Pursue continuing education as required

Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Veterans Village has 12 paid holidays a year, paid time off between Xmas and New Year’s, 403(b), vacation and sick leave.

This position is stationed at St. Vincent de Paul Village
