SOCIAL WORKER

Position Summary:

We are currently looking for an On-Call Social Worker for our Foster Care/Intensive Treatment Foster Care program, providing social work services to foster children and families. The Foster Care Social Worker provides foster care placement, planning and implementation for assigned client caseloads, and ensures that children achieve their placement goals in as expeditious a manner as possible. This position is great for prospective candidates who are potentially looking to fill a full time ASL Social Worker position should the opportunity arise in the future.

Some essential duties include, but are not limited to:
– Assessing the needs of children and ensuring that the appropriate range of clinical and concrete services are accessed, as needed, for each child
– Provide support services to foster families, including home visits, consultation and counseling, crisis intervention, referral and coordination of community services
– Conducts studies, including home visits on prospective foster families to assess their potential suitability as adoptive parents, and assists foster parents in managing the children placed in their homes.
– Provide therapy for the placed children; and provide weekly and/or semi-monthly visits for new placements, according to Agency policy and the child’s adjustment to placement.
– Participate as a team member in Agency case review meetings.

Position Specifications:
– MSW, MFT, or Master’s degree in a related field (LMFT or LCSW preferred).
– Fluent American Sign Language (ASL), knowledge of deaf culture, bilingual Spanish/English a plus.
– Previous, full-time, paid work experience in family and child welfare or mental health with emotionally disturbed children.
– Education/experience in individual and group behavior as well as family relationships and developmental theory.
– Track record of independent social work, and the capacity for developing job competency with supervision and in-service training.
– Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
– Experience in adoptions and/or foster placement preferred.

This position is based out of Five Acres’ El Monte office and serves clients in all Five Acres’ service areas.
