Program Description

Deaf Community Counseling Services, formerly with UCSF for 45 years and now with Felton as of 2012. DCCS operates in partnership with San Francisco City and County Community Behavioral Health Services (CBHS) , SF Department of Public Health (DPH) and Alameda County Behavioral Health Care services (ACBHCS). DCCS is dedicated to serving Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, and Late Deafened individuals and their families with culturally and linguistically sensitive staff fluent in American Sign Language. Services include mental health assessment and therapy, psychiatric medication services, case management, linkage and referral to other services, and school partnerships to foster academic and social success for students.

Job Description

Evaluates needs of clients and develops treatment plan of care in collaboration with individuals who experiences mental health and emotional challenges. Provide evidence based practice oriented individual, couples, and family counseling in addition to crisis intervention, case management, collaboration work, advocacy, skills building, prevention and education, and various duties relating to delivering services to community while providing a safe and supportive environment for agency’s clientele. Therapists will adhere to laws regarding confidentiality and reporting requirements. Therapists will be required to maintain accurate detailed observation and progress records for electronic billing data entry. Additional duties as needed and directed.

Program Specific Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessment interviews and diagnostic evaluations with children/adolescents and families and/or adult clients to develop treatment plan
  • Provide individual, family or group therapy, collateral work, case management and crisis intervention
  • Collaborate closely with school staff when appropriate; make referrals to linkages with other community and health agencies when indicated
  • Meet all deadlines and comply with agency requirements around the documentation of your work
  • Perform administrative tasks (i.e. chart completion, paperwork; attend staff meetings & other pertinent appointments).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Fluency in ASL (American Sign Language) and knowledge of Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind and Late Deafened Cultures
  • Excellent clinical written skills for assessment reports, development of plans of care, and progress notes
  • A minimum of 2 years of direct service experience working with an at-risk or severely mentally ill population
  • Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or related field
  • Current California MFT. LPCC, LCSW, License preferred; Will accept license eligible or registered Interns
  • Knowledge of County, State and Federal requirements for documentation and reporting
  • Knowledge of individual/family dynamics and child development
  • Knowledge and familiarity with other multi-cultural populations, especially African-American, Asian and Latino
  • Knowledge of DSM-V diagnoses
  • Knowledge of and ability to work in a community and agency structure
  • Ability to implement Evidenced Based Practices
  • Ability to carry out community assignments including those connected to the school sites and other agencies
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and efficiently
  • Ability to be flexible and respond effectively to crises with sound judgment
