Paid POST-GRADUATE REGISTERED Intern Position

JOB DESCRIPTION :
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director and the direct supervision of the Clinical Supervisors, the Post-Graduate Registered Intern is responsible for providing quality clinical treatment services to clients according to established policies and procedures. Quality of services is determined by professionally accepted standards as identified by the Board of Behavioral Services (BBS), C.A.S.A. established guidelines and practices, and emerging best practices in the field. Assist in the implementation of program activities in keeping with agency stated goals and objectives, facilitate effective communication within the organization, works collaboratively with all C.A.S.A. staff members, represent the agency in a professional manner. C.A.S.A. utilizes evidence based programs: Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), Trauma Resiliency Model and incorporates play therapy into client treatment services.

POSITION TYPE and EXPECTED HOURS of WORK :
This is a part time 30 hour a week position.

WAGES :
$17 an hour.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
These essential tasks constitute the core functions of the Post-Graduate Registered Intern position. Competent performance of all essential tasks is critical to the continued internship and clinical supervision of the Post-Graduate Registered Intern.

  • Provides direct psychotherapy treatment, performing client psychosocial assessments, developing treatment plans and guiding the treatment process, developing exit plans, providing psychological and emotional support to clients.
  • Works with children and adults using various modalities including individual, family and group therapy, as appropriate.
  • Facilitates support groups.
  • Completes all required administrative activity, including clinical record keeping, in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Actively utilizes clinical supervision to develop and hone intervention skills and strategies.
  • Participates in all required staff meetings and training opportunities.
  • Works collaboratively with other C.A.S.A. support staff.
  • Participates in training in trauma informed therapy as well as group supervision and individual supervision each week.
  • In an attempt to foster greater client empowerment, all direct psychotherapy treatment duties are to be carried out through a client-driven model through which client input heavily shapes treatment plans and goals.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for employment in this position:

  • Registered MFT Intern, MSW Intern, ASW, Psychology Intern or Psychology Assistant.
  • Must have had (or plan to have) State Certified Training (to be provided by C.A.S.A.).
  • Good to excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including ability to relate to diverse client and community population.
  • Fingerprinting and background clearance.
  • Valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, ability to transport self to job-related events and education locations.
  • Basic experience with Microsoft Word.
  • An interest in working with victims/survivors/witnesses of violence and abuse.
  • Two years’ work or volunteer experience in a human services setting preferred.
  • Experience as group facilitator, or with crisis intervention.

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS
Knowledge of :

  • Theory, principles and techniques of psychotherapy, case management and crisis intervention.
  • Child, adolescent and family development; normal and abnormal psychology.
  • Local community mental health and social service resources.

Ability to :

  • Develop and maintain effective therapeutic client relationships.
  • Work effectively with ethnically and culturally diverse, at-risk and low income populations.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.

WORKING CONDITIONS :
Environmental Conditions

  • Typical office environment; exposure to unpleasant client or facility elements; subject to varying and unpredictable situations, interruptions.
  • Working under significant time restraints

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS :

  • Essential and marginal functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods of time.
  • Person performing service in this position classification will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • May occasionally lift and stack heavy objects not to exceed 30 lbs.
  • This type of work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of the job.
