POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Assistant reports to the Program Director.  The Clinical Assistant is responsible for direct service to clients, coordinates the smooth day-to-day operation of the program, and supports the Program Director in administrative duties as directed.  The Clinical Assistant collaborates as a member of a multi-agency service team to deliver effective service.  This is a non-exempt position.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Clinical Assistant reports to the Program Director.

PREFERRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling; intern status with the Board of Behavioral Sciences.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in psychology, social work or related field.

Experience: Four years experience providing services to individuals with psychiatric disabilities.  One year of education may be substituted for one year of experience.

Knowledge: Understanding of DSM-IV, milieu therapy, crisis intervention, group and individual counseling theories and technique, medications and behavioral oral interventions.  Knowledge of: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email programs, as well as Medi-Cal documentation.

Special Skills: Strong ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team; excellent communication skills, both oral and written.  Ability to work in a stressful environment.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 20 lbs., view and utilize a computer, create documents in writing and/or typed form and drive agency or own vehicle as needed.  A TB test is required prior to employment as well.

Other Requirements:  Valid driver’s license that has been active for the past two years, clean driving record and personal automobile insurance.  Hiring is contingent upon receiving fingerprint clearance, a clean TB test and clearance on an employment physical.  Current First Aid and CPR certifications are required prior to employment. Maintain regular supervised clinical hours toward clinical licensure with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, if applicable

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Clinical Management

  • Weekly and monthly billing is completed and submitted in a timely manner to YCCC’s Fiscal Director, in accordance with YCCC Fiscal Policies
  • Assist the Program Director in completing regular (daily and close out) chart reviews
  • Document all communications to include Program Director and Associate Director through email.
  • Take referrals, triage, and schedule assessments for staff
  • Prioritize daily tasks and perform effectively

Milieu monitoring and Staff Support

  • Participate in orientation of new staff
  • Maintain shift staffing in relation to census demands
  • Scheduling of staff
  • Provide information (verbally and in Comm Log) to staff during shift transition
  • Support team members with regular shift duties
  • Be aware of potential crises and manage the milieu to decrease crises
  • Identify, prioritize, and resolve problems accurately & efficiently
  • Prepare and facilitate groups as assigned
  • Ensure that milieu is clean, safe and in compliance with Medi-Cal and Community Care Licensing requirements
  • Manage milieu to ensure clients feel safe and secure
  • Discuss each client’s daily goals with the staff, making assignments to ensure staff help clients with achieving goals

Direct Service

  • Review treatment plan goals with clients regularly
  • Provide one-to-one counseling
  • Make appropriate referrals for clients to other services
  • Coordinate, communicate, and implement the discharge plan for clients
  • Assist clients in maintenance of prescribed medication
  • Provide effective crisis intervention
  • Teach independent living skills effectively
  • Demonstrate active listening skills
  • Prioritize daily tasks
  • Utilize individualized approach to client services

Communication & Outreach

  • Contact Program Director immediately if a crisis occurs and significant events including, but not limited, to clinical issues, staffing issues, difficult client behaviors, safety issues, facility needs
  • Daily transition meeting and open communication with Program Director and Associate Director to coordinate managerial and clinical strategies

Training and Monitoring

  • Train staff in charting requirements
  • Verify that all charts, program documentation, medication management, incident reports and other forms/reports are completed in conjunction with Program Director according to Medi-Cal requirements and the following criteria:
    • Timely (within 72 hours of provided service)
    • Objectively (behavioral observations are recorded accurately)
    • Thoroughly
    • Legibly
    • Correctly follows procedures

Administrative Duties

  • Enters data and tracks outcomes for the Dignity Health Grant
  • Logs data for the 24 hour Access Line contract with Yolo County Mental Health
