MHS MINIMUM QUALIFICATONS:

  • The Mental Health Specialist position requires a minimum of a BA Degree and up to three years of experience and/or AA degree plus 5 years of relevant experience. The Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist position requires a BA degree plus four years of relevant experience and/or AA degree plus 6 years experience and obtain a mental health rehabilitation specialist counselor certification from the County of Santa Clara.
  • The MHS-MHRS position requires previous experience in working with extremely high risk probation and parolee consumers (that have had a serious history of violent charges) dealing with mental health, and/or substance abuse issues that adequately demonstrates proficiency with client care and clinical services.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and a valid driver’s license are required. Bilingual/bicultural capacity is preferred.
  • Applicants must be able to work flexible scheduled (i.e. late nights & weekends) with support from direct program supervisor/coordinator.
  • Applicants must have extensive specialized training in the area of Alcohol and Drug Treatment.

MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST R* *ESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs psychiatric casework, counseling and treatment services with patients or clients and their families.
  • Evaluates problems presented and in the making of treatment and coordinate plans.
  • May coordinate, participate, or conduct group therapy sessions.
  • Maintain a patient charts in accordance to State, County and quality assurance guidelines.
  • Establishes working relationships with other staff, public and private agencies emphasizing continuity of patient care.
  • May perform outreach, education, and mental health promotion.
  • Interprets and explains social and emotional factors pertaining to illness to clients’ relatives and community groups.
  • Will participate in on-call duty on a rotating basis.
  • Performs related work as required. Master’s degree plus registered with the CA Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) as MFTI or ASW and have obtained an effective Waiver of Licensure from the Santa Clara County Dept. of Mental Health.

MHT REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of: Principles of psychiatric social work counseling and other related techniques; community resources in designated areas; required knowledge of DSM IV.
  • Ability to: Apply casework skill effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships; secure and record accurate and pertinent social personal data.
  • Possession/or working on hours towards a valid clinical license (e.g. Social Work Marriage or Family Child Counselor) issued by the State of California. New hires must possess a State of California clinical license within four (4) years of completing post graduate work.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Effective problem solving skills.
