The primary responsibility of this position is to provide mental health services and case management services to adolescents and their families. The MFT Intern provides mental health services (including, but limited too, assessment and evaluation, treatment planning, individual and family therapy, crisis interventions, client advocacy, linkage and referrals to community resources) and other services to clients referred to the Field Capable Services Program (FCCS). He/she acts as liaison with external agencies and functions on teams with other clinical & support staff. Approximately 50%-70% of services are delivered in the field.
Field Capable Clinical Services (FCCS) are specialty mental health services provided to children/youth and TAY who are at risk of out-of-home placement, school failure, involvement with probation, or serious psychiatric, substance abuse, developmental, or medical problems. The services are individualized to each family and build on the child and family’s strengths to overcome mental health issues. The services offered include individual and family therapy, case management, and medication support. FCCS are largely provided in field-based settings such as the home, schools, or other places in the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Works with referred adolescents, their families, representatives of referring agencies, and other relevant parties (in-house and external) to promote rehabilitation and amelioration of problems which interfere with productive social and emotional daily living.
•Acts as liaison with various external agencies (such as Department of Children and Family Services, Department of Mental Health, and Probation Department) to facilitate clients adjustment in daily living routines.
• Assists in preparing clients for lasting and successful housing, vocational, educational, and treatment experiences.
•Maintains on-going relations with other county agencies, health care facilities, placement centers and other resources necessary to enhance the continuum of care for adolescents in the community.
•Availability by phone to assist in crisis intervention and provide support and assistance in problem resolution.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:
•Master’s degree in a Mental Health Field with at least one (1) year direct-service experience in a mental health field.
•Must have a valid intern number registered with the state and in good standing.
•Registered MFT or MSW Intern in California
•Must possess a valid Driver’s License from state of residence, automobile insurance, and a driving record that allow for operation of personal and company vehicles.
ABILITIES:
•Ability to relate to children with emotional disturbances and their families.
•The ability to work with clients and caretakers from diverse cultural backgrounds in a positive manner.
•Ability to drive to and from client’s homes in personal vehicle.
•Ability to perform clear and concise documentation in accordance to DMH standards.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
•Bilingual skills(English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
•Ability to interact and communicate both verbally and in writing with seriously emotionally disturbed adolescents, parents, foster parents, care takers, schools, other staff, physicians, county agencies, other health care providers and the public.
•Demonstrated understanding of psychiatric illness and its treatment.
•Demonstrated leadership, organization and time management skills.
