Job Description:
The Marriage and Family Therapist (Registered Intern) manages and provides services in the treatment to clients with mental health and substance abuse concerns by providing individual, group and family therapy, as well as other administrative, consultative, and teaching responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Interview clients, their relatives and/or agency personnel to obtain complete psychosocial case histories on assigned clients.
Assess each assigned client to evaluate individual needs for recovery
Participate in interdisciplinary staff meetings with other professional staff members, doctors and counsellors to discuss evaluate and develop treatment plans.
Conduct individual, group, couples and family counseling sessions.
Maintain complete documentation in client charts for treatment plans, progress notes of interventions and outcomes, as well as interactions with clients, families and community agencies.
Develop aftercare plans and co-ordinate discharge planning for all assigned clients.
Respond to all social services consulting requests by physicians on assigned clients.
Attend interdisciplinary staff meetings, case conferences, program team meetings, in-service and other meetings when appropriate.
Assist the family in working with the clinical staff toward treatment goals.
Assists with new admissions when required.
Maintain compliance with HIPPA regulations, ADA and Joint Commission policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Successfully completed all academic training related to their speciality from an accredited university;
Knowledge of theories of practice and psychotherapy (such as Systems Theory, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy etc);
Basic knowledge of diagnosis, crisis intervention, individual and group psychotherapy;
Experience with Chemical Dependency and Dual Diagnosis treatment preferred but not required;
Intern must be willing to work with a wide variety of symptoms related to mental health and substance abuse struggles.
Intern must be willing to work with multi-cultural populations and have an understanding for cultural diversity.
Must have knowledge of social service agencies, state regulations and as it relates to client treatment, client rights and client confidentiality.
Maintain valid CPR/First Aid certification.
