Substance Abuse Counselor/ MFT Intern

Substance abuse treatment center is looking for enthusiastic and committed Residential Counselor for its inpatient programs. This is a trauma-based treatment program for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

Job duties include, but are not limited to, providing client supervision, facilitating psychoeducational groups, transporting clients to off-site activities, and providing milieu-based coaching. Great training opportunity for MFT trainees, interns, and other mental health professionals interested in working in a trauma-based treatment program.

Responsibilities and duties:

  1. Provide individual, and group counseling services in coordination with other team members.
  2. Participate in client pre-enrollment screenings and intake/assessments as scheduled.
  3. Conduct client psycho-social assessments and complete appropriate paperwork.
  4. Participate in scheduled in staff team meetings, presenting relevant information on all new admissions, treatment plan changes, and discharges.
  5. Maintain close contact with each client’s reference if written consent is given, providing monthly written reports if required.
  6. Complete necessary and on-going paperwork and chart reviews in a timely fashion.
  7. Keep accurate records of all assigned client contacts.
  8. Counselor is responsible for follow-up on participants after completion of program.
  9. Counselor will be a liaison between participants and program director.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned within the limitations of a substance abuse counselor.

Education/experience requirements:

  • Certified as substance abuse counselor, licensed, or registered to obtain their licensure or certification.
  • Experienced in the field of alcohol and drug treatment.
  • Experience in individual and group counseling.
  • If recovering from substance abuse, must have at least two years of continuous sobriety.
  • Knowledge of self-help groups (i.e. Aa, na, ca, etc.).
  • Knowledge of developing treatment/recovery plans and charting participant files.
  • Knowledge of community resources for referrals.
  • Must be able to pass drug test
