This position works with individuals with a severe mental illness in a residential setting and is an on-call/per diem, non-exempt position. There is no typical day but you can expect to work with adults having a psychiatric disability by providing groups, 1:1’s, activities of daily living (like helping with cooking and cleaning), medication support, case management and documentation.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mental Health Worker is responsible for providing direct service to clients and for facilitating the smooth day-to-day operation of the program. The Mental Health Worker collaborates as a member of a multi-agency treatment team to develop and implement effective treatment strategies. This is a non-exempt position.

Direct Client Services including but not limited to:

  • Providing Groups
  • 1:1’s
  • Medication Support
  • Teach independent living skills effectively
  • Demonstrate active listening skills
  • Prioritize daily tasks
  • Providing effective crisis intervention

Milieu Management including but not limited to:

  • Be aware of and eliminate stressors in the milieu
  • Provide information (verbally and in Com Log) during shift transition
  • Is present at and oversees client activities
  • Ensure completion of household chores by clients to ensure milieu is clean and safe

Communication and Outreach including but not limited to:

  • Coordinate with other treatment providers
  • Function effectively as a treatment team member
  • Participate in staff meetings

Documentation including but not limited to:

  • Treatment plan goals are developed in tandem with the client and are time limited, observable, measurable, achievable, and are developed in conjunction with the client
  • All charts, program documentation, medication management, incident reports, and other forms/reports are completed according to the following criteria: timely (within 72 hours of provided service); objectively (behavioral observations are recorded accurately); thoroughly; legibly; and correctly following procedures

  • Be flexible in accepting assignments
  • Accept direction and feedback from supervisor

  • Utilize customer service approach with clients, family members and community members

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Coursework in psychology, social work, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: One year working with individuals with psychiatric disabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of and belief in the principles of consumer centered treatment. Knowledge of DSM-IV, medications and interventions preferred.
  • Special Skills: Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as a team member. Excellent communication skills, both oral, and written.
  • Physical requirements: Must obtain a clean TB test and clearance on an employment physical. Must be able to lift twenty pounds, view and utilize a computer, documents in writing and/or typed form, and drive as needed.
  • Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and personal automobile insurance preferred. Employment is contingent upon receiving Department of Justice fingerprint clearance. Current First Aid and CPR certifications are required prior to employment.
