Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the School Mental Health Coordinators, and the indirect supervision of the Counseling Program Managers, the School Mental Health Clinician provides therapeutic support to students, individually and/or in groups, for the purpose of helping students remove mental health and behavioral barriers to learning. The School Mental Health Clinician collaborates with school guidance counselors, staff, teachers, parents and students and does not duplicate the services provided at the school by the school guidance counselor or other school professionals. The primary work of this position takes place on designated school campuses, and team meetings, supervision and/or consultation take place at the main SAY campus. Excellent clinical supervision provided for pre-licensed clinicians.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
• Collaborates with the professional educational team (teachers, principals, school counselors, etc.) at the
school, working cooperatively and creatively to meet student needs and remove mental health and behavioral
barriers to learning.
• Provides mental health therapeutic support to students on an individual and/or group basis.
• Tracks all services in a timely manner on required tracking system.
• Documents all services and keeps up-to-date charts.
• Consults with parents regarding students’ mental health treatment.
• Communicates with agencies which could include police, sheriff, probation, social services, mental health, the
courts, youth services and other organizations when needed.
• Consults and provides training to teachers and other staff to assist them with planning and implementing
interventions to remove mental health-related barriers to academic performance.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Holds a Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work
• On a licensure track toward or licensed (must have a current license to practice mental health in California)
in any of the following areas:
• MFT, LPCC, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, or LCSW
• Minimum 2 years experience providing mental health support to youth and families, experience in a school
setting preferred.
• Knowledge, skills and abilities to serve students with all levels of mental health needs.
• Experienced and successful with detailed documentation and assessment.
• Experienced in Microsoft Office.
• Able to work independently at various school sites.
• Demonstrated awareness of, sensitivity to, and competence in working with cultural and socioeconomically
diverse clients.
• Proven ability to develop rapport and trust with youth, families, and school personnel and ability to engage
students who may be reluctant to seek services.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality as set forth by the mental health professional ethical standards related to
client information, while balancing the need for collaboration with school professionals.
• Ability to work well with and collaborate with schools and community providers in a professional manner.
• Knowledge and compliance of child welfare reporting laws.
• Must pass criminal background check.

Spanish language skills highly desirable; bi-cultural experience preferred.

Note: Must pass criminal background and sanctions check, TB screening and requirements to drive on SAY business.
