Dr. Debra Johnson, Inc. and Parents United of Stanislaus County supports individuals and families who have been affected by all aspects of child sexual abuse by dealing with the issue from a systemic, holistic approach. We provide treatment to child victims of sexual abuse, adults who were victims as a child, parents, guardians, and other family members who want to support the victims in their lives or need support for dealing with sexual abuse affecting themselves or the family, as well as treatment for persons convicted or accused of sexually offending. We offer one-on-one and group therapy, family treatment when appropriate, therapeutically supervised visits, and a variety psychoeducational classes year-round.

The Therapist/Clinician will provide individual counseling, group counseling, family counseling and parent consults. The clinician will conduct intakes, discharge planning, initial needs assessments and treatment plans in a professional manner, and maintain patient charts accurately. The clinician will be expected to communicate effectively with outside agencies, participate in staff meetings and trainings as appropriate, support and model the agency’s values, and represent the agency in a professional manner.

The clinician must be either a licensed clinician (LMFT, LCSW, LPCC) or an associates level registered intern in their respective discipline. Supervision is provided by a Licensed Clinician for Associate interns.

We are currently seeking a part-time therapist – approximately 15 hours starting while training, with an increase of up to 25 hours within three months, and flexibility to grow from there over-time. Monday evenings (5:30-8:30 pm) and Tuesday mornings (9:00-11:00 am) required – other hours are flexible, though availability during peak times throughout the week (afternoons and evenings) is preferred. Starting pay rate ranges from $17-$23 D.O.E.

Well-qualified candidates for this position will possess the following:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good follow up skills in regards to documenting and keeping track of patients’ progress and upcoming appointments.
  • Interest in working with both victims of child sexual abuse and perpetrators of child sexual abuse in a multidisciplinary team setting (with both children and adults).
  • Dedication to preventing further sexual victimization and ability to address difficult issues with a challenging population.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage through difficult client discussions.
  • Sufficient self-confidence to tolerate working with a challenging population.
  • Effective self-care habits and a healthy sense of humor.
  • Commitment to continuously gaining increased expertise in this specialized field through independent study, training and professional association memberships.
  • Certification by the California Sex Offender Management Board (CASOMB) – or eligible for certification (within 60 days of employment commencement) and willing to apply (out of pocket cost for professional certification).
  • CCOSO or ATSA membership or willingness to join.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices, CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and play therapy.
  • Proven track record of reliability and consistency of high performance.
  • Strong desire to learn and grow professionally.

And the ability to:

  • Set limits/consequences appropriate for children who may display: assaultive, self-destructive, explosive, sexual acting out, impulsive, property destruction, running away behaviors.
  • Maintain rules, schedules and routines for children.
  • Provide a positive role model to children and adults.
  • Promote appropriate social development to children and adults.
  • Provide services to adult sexual offender clients.
  • Administer sex offender-specific psychological assessments (training provided).
  • Provide group and individual counseling and psychoeducational services.
  • Work closely and keep a good working relationship with Probation, Parole, Child and Family Services, and the Courts.
  • Work in an independent setting with strong organizational skills and rigorous attention to detail.
  • Work with a variety of personalities.
  • Make no less than a 18 month commitment to work in a specific location
