Definition: As part of the ATCAA Team, the Marriage Family Therapist (MFT) and Master of Social Work (MSW), CMSW or Clinical Psychology Intern plays an essential role in ATCAA as a whole. The MFT/MSW Intern, under the supervision of a licensed therapist will provide effective mental health intervention with children who have been victims of trauma or abuse.

Supervisor: Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (MFT) Supervisor

Job Duties and Responsibilities Related to This Position

Under the supervision of the licensed Therapist, the intern will:

  • Perform assessments and evaluation of problems and formulate treatment plans;
  • Provide crisis intervention;
  • Prepare case histories and maintains client records;
  • Provide supervisor with information necessary for monthly reporting to funders;
  • Make referrals to appropriate outside agencies;
  • Participate in mental health education programs and attend trainings;
  • Participate in support and psycho education groups;
  • Assist therapy team in outreach as requested;
  • Attend collaborative community meetings as necessary;
  • Attend ATCAA therapy team meetings for coordination of services;
  • Provide client intake, information and referral;
  • Attend 40 hours of instruction on child victim therapy if needed;
  • Meet with the licensed Therapist on an ongoing basis for supervision and training purposes.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

As a part of the ATCAA team, all employees play an essential role in ATCAA as a whole, and are expected to:

  • Demonstrate and encourage a professional and positive attitude in all job related activities;
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with standards outlined in the “Statement of Confidentiality and Ethics”;
  • Accomplish all work activities in a safe and timely manner within assigned guidelines and consistent with ATCAA’s Personnel Policies and Operating Procedures;
  • Report and/or correct deficiencies that constitute immediate threats to health and safety;
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the supervisor that are consistent with the definition and intent of the job description;

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduated from an accredited institution: Master of Counseling or Master of Social Work program or other related graduate program.

Knowledge of:

  • Therapeutic treatment methods and procedures in the mental health field;
  • State, Federal and local mandated reporting laws;
  • Dynamics of child abuse and family violence issues;
  • Crisis counseling techniques;
  • Child victim therapy;
  • Psychotropic medications;
  • Psycho-social aspects of mental illnesses;
  • Family Systems Theory.

Ability to:

  • MeetState of California Board of Behavioral Sciences mandates for a trainership or internship;
  • Meet the following program requirements necessary for this position: possess a valid California driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and fingerprint clearance;
  • Carry own liability coverage and provide proof;
  • Provide proof of eligibility as an MFT/MSW intern.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of various treatment modalities for children such as: trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), art therapy, sand tray therapy, music and movement therapy;
  • Bi-lingual, English/Spanish.
