Victor Treatment Centers (VTC) is a non-profit residential treatment program and non-public school that exists to provide a healthy, healing living environment for severely emotionally disturbed youth who have such great needs that they are not able to succeed in family situations and/or lower levels of care. Children age 8 through 18 who have not been successful in family situations, foster homes, or group homes can find success within the Victor Treatment Centers environments. VTC provides 24/7 supervision in conjunction with intensive mental health services. VTC residential services are based on a foundation of strength-based and relationship-based approaches that support the optimal recovery and resiliency for these youth. STATEMENT OF THE JOB
As a member of the mental health and family support services team the School Counselor is responsible for the design and delivery of quality mental health and family support services as outlined in the youth’s IEP. These responsibilities include the development, documentation, and implementation of treatment plans and ongoing assessments to identify changing needs. The School Counselor needs to interact with the youth and the rest of the treatment team in order to help the youth analyze and better understand his/her situation and the reason for placement in an NPS. In addition, the School Counselor assists the youth in the ability to handle associated emotional problems, accessing their education, resolving difficulties that have led to the placement in an NPS, and assisting them in moving back into a less restrictive school environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides comprehensive mental health assessments on assigned cases to determine which mental health services the client needs. Develops needs and service plans based on a comprehensive assessment of each client’s personal milestones and obstacles. The Counselor shall evaluate each client’s progress and adjust the service plan as may be necessary and appropriate. Completes all required documentation in a timely manner for each assigned client and maintains a comprehensive set of treatment records on each client. Acts as the liaison between the program and community agencies and individuals such as School Districts, Case Managers, County Social Workers, and Probation Officers. The Counselor shall work with the treatment team, family, and school district representatives in the implementation of service plans. Provides individual, family and group counseling based on the needs of the clients. Maintains collateral contacts within the family or care providers and community. Demonstrates competency in utilization of the CANS assessment, if applicable. Participates in IEP’s regarding the student’s mental health services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • requires BBS registered MFT-Intern, ASW, or licensed MFT or LSW
  • Prefer prior experience working in residential treatment or school setting, prior experience with severely emotionally disturbed children or adolescents.
  • Must have prior experience with severely emotionally disturbed children or adolescents.
  • Must have valid CA driver’s license and clean DMV record
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint background check
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical including a drug test and physical fitness test.

BENEFITS AND PAY
Position: We are looking for a full-time school counselor to work in accordance with the non-public school calendar, approximately 206 school days per year.

Pay Range: $26.00-$27.58 depending on qualifying experience in clinical setting and licensure
