Full Job Description

This position will provide in-home and in-office adoption –related; trauma-informed therapy to families and children in the adoption process, with the goal of achieving/maintaining permanence and stability. The therapist will provide adoption related individual and family therapy addressing clinical issues including but not limited to the adoption triad, loss, rejection, abandonment, guilt, low-self esteem, anger, resentment, trust and attachment. Therapy will also address traditional parenting techniques, and the positive and negative impact on children with abuse and neglect backgrounds, including possible interventions. Therapy will attempt to stabilize a child in placement and promote permanency for that child, and can be provided in the home or in the office, at the client’s request.

Qualified candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related in one of the following fields: social work; social welfare; marriage, family and child counseling; child psychology; child development; counseling psychology; social psychology; clinical psychology; educational psychology; or education with emphasis on counseling.
  • Currently have or willing to obtain an Associate or Intern status with the Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • Have at least two (2) years adoption experience, including, but not limited to, an awareness of the developmental process of adoption and training in adoption therapy strategies and techniques including the Seven Core Issues of Adoption.
  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish).
