We currently have an opening for a regular full-time Bilingual (Spanish/English) Mental Health Counselor at our Step Forward North Central CalWORKs Program.
Step Forward North Central provides a full range of behavioral health services to assist individuals to overcome challenges and reduce barriers that may affect their ability to successfully move from welfare to work. Services are provided to adults and their families in a caring and respectful atmosphere, encouraging independence, initiative, and recovery. Step Forward North Central provides outpatient services Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and is centrally located in the Kearny Mesa area.
Step Forward North Central provides excellent training in the Mental Health field with strong emphasis in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.
General Description
A full-time Mental Health Counselor is currently open to assist with conducting psychosocial assessments, care coordination, and case management services in Spanish and English, as well as drive to off-site CalWORKs offices to provide outreach to new participants. S/he provides therapeutic interventions in Spanish and English with clients and members of clients’ families in a timely and professional manner in individual, group and family modalities as well as re-evaluates and updates client’s service plans when clinically indicated and per guidelines.
The Mental Health Counselor participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning and performs collateral interviews as indicated with all identified partners, i.e. schools, social services, Welfare-to-Work staff, Substance Use Disorder Specialists, and other treatment providers, and conducts effective screenings and timely crisis intervention services with clients and their families on-site, off-site, and by phone in English and Spanish. S/he is responsible for maintaining prompt, accurate, complete, and professional documentation in English according to CRF’s policies and procedures and the Uniform Clinical Record Manual along with CalWORKs program requirements and pay points. Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
Qualifications / Skills Required
The ideal candidate possesses one or more of the following qualifications/specifications:
A valid California driver’s license in good standing and eligibility to be an approved CRF driver is required to fulfill the essential functions of this position. Determination of driver eligibility is based on criteria established by the County of San Diego, CRF’s automobile insurance carrier and the California DMV. Eligibility must be maintained through the duration of incumbency. In addition, proof of insurance is required prior to driving personal vehicles on company business.
