Position Overview
The MST Therapist works in a team with other therapists providing Multisystemic Therapy to juvenile offenders and their families throughout Contra Costa County. MST is an intensive family- and community-based treatment program that focuses on addressing all environmental systems that impact chronic and violent juvenile offenders—-their homes and families, schools and teachers, neighborhoods and friends.
Education, License, and Experience Requirements
Masters degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or a related subject area.
Bilingual Spanish required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Conduct MST assessment including review of referral information, identifying and engaging key participants, identifying systemic strengths and weaknesses, and developing an analysis of the fit of problem behaviors within the ecological context.
• Engage primary caregiver and other key participants in active change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming barriers to engagement.
• Implement a problem conceptualization, treatment planning, intervention implementation, outcome review and strategy revision procedure using the MST Analytic Process.
• Maintain clear and concise documentation of treatment efforts that promote peer and supervisory review and feedback, and that demonstrate compliance with the 9 MST Principles and the MST Analytic Process.
• Collaborate with all relevant systems and key participants within each system to ensure their buy-in and cooperation throughout MST treatment.
• Provide direct clinical treatment using methods compatible with MST principles and practices.
• Participate in all MST training, supervision, consultation activities, and other staff meetings.
• Travel is necessary and required in order to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Must have a dependable vehicle, a good driving record, and full coverage auto insurance.
• The MST Therapist has regular on-call responsibilities, with an additional paid stipend, one week per month.

About Community Options for Families and Youth
COFY has been serving children, youth and families in the greater Bay Area since 2007. We contract with Contra Costa County Mental Health to provide MST services, FFT services, and Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS). Additionally we provide Special Education Individualized Education Plan related mental health services to over 25 school districts and SELPAs in the Bay area. We are committed to maintaining a mental health community that provides both collegial support and ongoing training to effectively work with traumatized multiply stressed families, youth and children.
