Job Description
Under the direction of the off-site Clinical Supervisor the part-time Therapist – Intern is responsible for providing and coordinating mental health services to youth at Wind’s Runaway and Homeless Youth Shelter. Duties include trauma-informed mental health assessments, crisis management, drop-in counseling sessions, family counseling and reunification, facilitation and planning of groups for youth, collaboration with case planning and completion of on-going paperwork. This position requires the Intern to possess good organizational and documentation skills. The Intern will also possess a high degree of flexibility in responding to the emergent needs of youth experiencing homelessness. Many of these youth may actively be in crisis, or otherwise experiencing trauma of varying types and degrees of severity.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide crisis and therapy services to homeless, at-risk youth ages 12-18 in a residential setting
Provide family counseling and reunification as appropriate
Provide trauma-informed, culturally affirming, and LGBTQ affirming counseling services.
Assess each client’s need for services and develop and document service plans that best meet the client.
Create and implement group curricula.
Provide referrals to psychiatric, substance abuse, and other mental health care providers in the event that it is necessary for youth to access a higher level of service.
Complete and submit all documentation in a timely manner, including client intake and exit paperwork; assessment and service plans; and child trafficking or cognitive screens (if needed).
Provide written reports within the bounds of BBS confidentiality regulations.
Review cases weekly with Clinical Supervisor
Review case files of all youth in care quarterly to ensure proper documentation is being completed.
Provide training for staff and/or parents in the area of mental health.
Communicates with other agencies to help coordinate services.
Plan, organize and prioritize own work to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks within established timelines, including maintaining accurate records and files;
Analyze and integrate outcome data to improve clinical service delivery.
Ensure and monitor satisfaction levels for youth, families, and referring workers and agencies.
Maintains regular contact with supervisor per BBS licensing requirements to determine best practices and therapeutic approaches.
Assist the Program Coordinator in the overall operation of the mental health program.
Must be aware of, and responsive to relevant cultural factors when dealing with youth and their families, as well as outside systems they may be connected with.
Assume other duties as assigned by either the Center Program Coordinator and/or Clinical Supervisor.
Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications
Registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and an MFTI or ASW required
Knowledge and experience in individual and family therapy methods.
Knowledge of the mental health needs and barriers to care among the Sacramento County homeless youth and adults.
Extensive knowledge of and experience using the principles and methods of culturally competent assessment, diagnosis and treatment for transition-age youth.
Ability to work in an environment that is client-oriented, strength-based and values diversity.
Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree in psychology, social work, or a closely related field required.
Experience working with the persons experiencing homelessness preferred.
Working knowledge of community resources as they relate to homelessness and youth.
Experience in social services and non-profit organizations preferred.
Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, internet, email and databases is essential.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (MFTI or ASW)
Valid California driver’s license & Proof of Insurance
Ability to pass background check

Salary: $17.00 Per Hour
Hours: PT 20hrs per week-Weekends included
