We are currently seeking part time (schedules between 20 and 34 hours per week available) experienced mental health services providers to work in our Mentor / CPEP programs.
Our Mentor program is a one-on-one rehabilitative behavior modification program for children and youth aged 5-18 who are experiencing emotional or behavioral issues. Mentors develop a positive rapport with their Mentees, and work with the child on specific skill building and behavioral goals. Mentors use Motivational Interviewing techniques to help mentees through the stages of change and to increase positive outcomes.
Most mentoring work is done in the child’s own community, typically within a recreational environment or in their home, in order to help the child learn new and healthy coping skills that they can use in their everyday lives. Mentors collaborate with the family and with other service providers in working towards the child’s goals.
Our Mentees and their families are located across Contra Costa County; Mentors typically work in central Contra Costa County plus either the East County area, or the West County area.
For these vacancies, we are especially interested in candidates who have previous experience mentoring boys aged between 8 and 12 years old.
Where desired, Mentors may supplement their hours by also serving adults in our Child – Parent Enrichment Program (CPEP). This program works with parents/caregivers whose children are in our Mentoring program, and who need additional support, skills, or coping strategies to help their children achieve their behavioral goals. CPEP provides a supportive environment for the parents to learn strategies to help their children, psychoeducation for parents/caregivers, and specific strategies the parents can use to help the child reduce their behavioral symptoms. Like Mentoring, CPEP is a home-based service.
The successful candidates for these positions will have had a minimum of 2 years recent clinical experience working with children and families, and will approach their work with our clients from a strengths-based perspective, with a trauma-informed, non-judgmental manner.
