Summary

Under general supervision of a licensed clinician, conducts behavioral health assessments and provides non-medical psychotherapeutic services to assigned individuals and groups.

FLSA: Exempt

Bilingual Spanish/English and Bilingual Hmong/English desired.

Essential Job Functions

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • Performs intensive casework services with children and adult clients and their relatives through individual and group therapy; participates in the intake process, the evaluation of problems presented, and the development of treatment plans.
  • Gathers data of client’s history through personal interviews with client, relatives, friends, teachers and employers; prepares case histories with particular emphasis on psycho-social factors affecting the client; cooperates with other staff members and community agencies in carrying out a treatment plan.
  • Provides ongoing psychosocial clinical assessment, treatment planning and psycho-therapeutic treatment of all clients assigned, under the supervision of the licensed clinician.
  • Provides case management services for assigned cases; documents clinical files and billing records for all client contacts, including consultations with other agencies.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings to review client caseload, treatment, concerns, and recommendations; prepares and presents progress reports.
  • Provides individual and group therapeutic services; facilitates group therapy sessions; assists client to learn skills required to successfully engender psychological stability and personal independence.
  • Provides emergency on-call service as assigned; conducts interventions and evaluations of individuals in crisis; initiates the provision of critical services based on the evaluation.
  • Supports and enhances the clients’ emotional stability; explains nature of illness, plan of care, procedures and treatments to clients, family and significant others; provides advocacy as needed.
  • Maintains cooperative professional relationships with local community agencies significant to the continuum of care for clients.
  • Conducts presentations and training to county staff and general public to introduce and communicate the roles and functions of the behavioral health programs.
  • Maintains expertise in field of service through participation in applicable educational opportunities.
  • Adheres to the standards of the Privacy Act of 1974, {U.S.C. § 552A} as amended; maintains and enforces all aspects of confidentiality of client information.
  • Supports the relationship between Butte County and the constituent population by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and other employees.
  • Updates and maintains a variety of files, records, charts and other documents.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses: (Where college degrees and/or college course credits are required, degrees and college units must be obtained from an accredited college or university. Courses from non-accredited institutions will not be considered for this requirement. Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be):

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited graduate school or program in Social Work, Marriage Family Therapy, or Counseling. Upcoming graduates may supply a letter from their attending university stating impending graduation date of their degree program and verification of credits needed for graduation, which will allow placement on list of eligible candidates. Actual hiring of position will not occur until after graduation date.
  • Prior clinical experience as a paraprofessional or an intern is preferred.
  • Prior to hiring must possess an intern number for licensure as either a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage Family Therapist or a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the State of California as established by the Board of Behavioral Science Examiners. Employees must obtain licensure as an MFT, LCSW or LPCC in the State of California within five (5) years of the effective date of employment. Employees failing to obtain licensure as required will be terminated or demoted to an appropriate lower position in which they meet the minimum requirements for within the Behavioral Health Department, if one is available
  • A valid State of California driver’s license is required.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements
  • Working conditions are typical health clinic settings; involves the potential for high stress levels and exposure to hostile situations; some non-standard work hours are required.
  • Must work with a clinically challenging client population; must be able to maintain professional composure and clinical effectiveness.
  • May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds.
